Our History and Key People |
|
Upper Canada Stone Company, Ltd. was founded in 1991 by two geologists, Richard Scratch and Perry Hartwick, with the opening of our first quarry near Bancroft, Ontario. Since then, we have grown into a leading architectural aggregates and landscape stone supplier operating over a dozen quarries and a mineral processing - packaging facility at Madoc, Ontario.
We have developed a seasoned team of well trained professionals dedicated to providing quality, consistency and value to our customers throughout North America. While all of our employees are very important to our success, these men play a particularly significant roll: |
Richard B. Scratch, Ph.D
Richard is a founding partner and Vice President of the Company. He received his Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Waterloo in 1977 and a Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario in 1981. During the 10 year period prior to incorporation of the Company in 1991, Richard worked in various segments of the mining industry throughout North America.
Richard looks after customer service, logistics, A/R, A/P and is our senior technical support representative. |

Perry A. Hartwick, P.Geo.
Perry is a founding partner and President of the Company. Perry earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto in 1983 and is a registered Professional Geoscientist in the province of Ontario. He has worked throughout Canada and parts of the United States in a number of economic geology capacities and much of Perry's post graduate experience consisted of the licensing, development and marketing of Industrial Minerals and Aggregate Resources.
Perry is the Director of production, quarry development and marketing. |

Clarence MacDonald
Clarence is the Manager of our Madoc Plant. In fact, he has worked in that capacity since 1998 and joined us in late 2001 with the acquisition of the Plant and associated quarries by the Company. Clarence brings with him a wealth of hands-on quarry experience acquired through over 30 years in the business.

Justin MacDonald
Justin is our Quality and Logistics Supervisor at the Madoc Plant. He has been with us since April 2003. Justin is responsible for all shipping, purchasing and also oversees the quality and consistency of production in Madoc. |

Clarence MacDonald
Clarence is the Manager of our Madoc Plant. In fact, he has worked in that capacity since 1998 and joined us in late 2001 with the acquisition of the Plant and associated quarries by the Company. Clarence brings with him a wealth of hands-on quarry experience acquired through over 30 years in the business.
In addition to being a primary producer of architectural aggregates, we also greatly value the associations we enjoy with other producers and transportation companies across the continent. This network ensures that no matter what type of aggregate you require, Upper Canada is your best choice to deliver.

Rob Redden
Rob is our Sales, Marketing and Logistics Manager at our Head Office location in Barrie, Ontario. He has been with us since August 2006. Rob is responsible for sales of our Landscape and Building Stone products, logistics from both our River Valley and Madoc locations, and marketing new and current products for Upper Canada Stone. |
